For more than 65 years, our dedicated Taft-Hartley retirement professionals have focused solely on union clients. Together, we work closely with you and your trustees in a variety of ways, from optimizing your plan’s design to educating your diverse memberships, while helping trustees meet their fiduciary responsibilities.
Responsible Contractor Policy
We are committed to the skill and expertise of union labor and collaborate to further strengthen our partnership through our actively managed Responsible Contractor Policy, which follows the form and substance of the prior policy developed in collaboration with the Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO.
Our policy applies to all construction projects at 100% owned and occupied properties of Empower. It also includes a unique process whereby we notify Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO about any subcontracts expected to exceed $250,000, so that they can give us the names of qualified union contractors to bid on our work. No one else in our industry provides this level of transparency. In addition, our policy is one of the very few that also addresses construction lending. This policy represents a best practice on the part of construction, real estate, loan, and retirement services providers. We have a reputation for leading the development of industry best practices through collaboration.
