Empower recognized as one of the 50 most community-minded companies in Colorado
GREENWOOD VILLAGE, COLO. Dec. 7, 2022 – For the fourth consecutive year, Empower employees have proved that giving back certainly makes a difference. In 2021, associates across the country contributed more than 9,400 volunteer hours through Empower’s corporate giving program.
Empower has been named again as an honoree of The Civic 50 Colorado by CSR Solutions of Colorado and Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service. The award recognizes Empower as one of the most community-minded companies in Colorado, determined by an independently administered and scored survey.
Empower is headquartered in Greenwood Village, Colorado, with offices in Kansas, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts as well as a remote employee base across the country. Empower matches employee contributions up to $5,000 per associate per year, and associates can take up to 16 hours of paid time off annually to volunteer. In 2021, Empower associates donated $2.14 million to more than 1,600 nonprofit organizations.
“Being recognized again for the altruism of our Empower associates is nothing but impressive. They each bring a selfless effort that has helped make a difference to so many people and organizations across the country,” said Edmund F. Murphy III, president and CEO at Empower. “Seeing the change and impact that has been made on so many levels because of their commitment makes me proud every day.”
Some of the achievements included:
- Associates and their families supporting two charity swims to benefit Swim Across America’s work to help fund cancer research and patient programs.
- Partnering with Keeping Greater Milwaukee Beautiful, associates picked up trash in downtown to beautify their city and keep trash out of waterways.
- Associates volunteering with Harvesters Community Food Network to sort and pack food for local food banks.
- The ALMA (Aspiring Latinos Moving Ahead) business resource group (BRG) celebrating Hispanic Heritage month in Denver at a local Latino-owned brewery with a showcase of traditional dances, a presentation on the challenges facing the Latino community and dance lessons.
- A new Empower Young Professionals BRG that was started to harness the potential of our up-and-coming associates.
“Through Empower’s giving program, our associates have the opportunity to support causes closest to their hearts and amplify their impact with company support,” said Suzanne Sanchez, Chief Human Resources Officer at Empower. “Volunteering in the communities we live in provides us with a sense of pride and camaraderie amongst our associates and we will always be committed to supporting our employees so they can give back to what they’re passionate about.”
