In the first half of 2025, Americans across the U.S. saw financial gains in their net worth. See how your state stacks up.

Conclusion

Though Americans say you need $5.3 million net worth to be considered successful, just 27% rank wealth as the highest benchmark, according to Empower research. Rather, most Americans say happiness (59%) is the most important factor – being able to spend money on the things and experiences that bring the most joy, doing what you love, followed by the luxury of free time (35%) to pursue personal passions. Over a third say success is just as much about physical wellbeing (35%) as it is how much money they have (27%).
