Empowering America’s Financial Journey™
Community-focused organizations
Organizations that support and strengthen our communities — including healthcare systems, educational institutions, religious organizations, and human services employers — operate within workforce realities that shape how retirement plans are used every day.
This first edition of Empowering America’s Financial Journey for community-focused organizations explores how participant behaviors vary across these segments. It highlights differences in engagement, access, and key decision moments that can influence outcomes over time.
Across sub-sectors, several patterns stand out
Taken together, these insights highlight where participant needs differ across segments — and where there may be opportunities to better align plan experiences for the workforce.
Methodology
This report is based on Empower recordkeeping data for active participants in employer-sponsored defined contribution retirement plans.
Explore the full study to see how these patterns show up across each sub-sector and where targeted strategies may help support stronger outcomes. |

The analysis covers 2 million active nonprofit and not-for-profit participant accounts across 10,000 plans, with selective comparisons to a corporate defined contribution population of 6.2 million participants across 51,000 plans.
