Empower Retirement today congratulated the New England Patriots on their historic victory in Super Bowl LI, played yesterday at NRG Stadium in Houston. Empower has been a sponsor of the Patriots since 2015.
The Patriots defeated the Atlanta Falcons in legendary fashion – rallying to score 31 unanswered points late in the game to achieve an overtime 34-28 victory.
"What the New England Patriots accomplished this year is astounding," said Edmund F. Murphy III, President of Empower Retirement. “But their Super Bowl performance was nothing short of miraculous – perhaps one of the greatest victories in the history of sports.
"The team’s long-term record of success puts them at the upper echelon of sports dynasties. We’re proud to partner with the Patriots organization,” said Murphy. “Empower associates who count themselves among Patriots Nation are celebrating this terrific victory. We could not be more excited for the team and its affiliates. Congratulations on a job well done.”
It is the fifth title won by head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady, the most ever by any coach-quarterback combination. It was the first overtime win in Super Bowl history.
Empower and the Patriots have a multiyear sponsorship that includes the naming of the team’s practice facilities, which are now called the Empower Field House and the Empower Practice Field. Empower also enjoys a host of branding and media benefits, including: in-stadium signage; television, radio, digital and social media opportunities; and participation in team events, as well as significant local and national exposure through various forms of media.
The partnership with the Patriots is a part of Empower’s “Now Is a Good Time” campaign. This initiative promotes the company’s unique value proposition as an innovative retirement services provider and includes the firm’s push to encourage its customers to engage now in planning for their financial future.
Along with the Patriots, in 2015 Empower announced partnerships with the Denver Broncos – winners of Super Bowl 50 – and the Kansas City Chiefs. The three NFL teams reside in major metropolitan markets where Empower is located. The partnerships enable Empower to connect with millions of existing customers and a range of prospective customers.
Last year, Empower unveiled its next phase of sports marketing with the announcement of a partnership with PGA Tour golfer Robert Streb.
