Company expands investment to help university’s ‘tremendous’ student athletes and connect with college sports fans

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, COLO. June 14, 2022 – Empower, the nation’s second largest retirement services provider, announced today it has entered a marketing partnership with Boston College to support the university’s student-athletes in several key sports. The agreement, which goes into effect for the 2022 football season will span across BC football, basketball, and hockey seasons.

Boston College is a private Jesuit university located in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The Eagles compete in NCAA Division I as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference in all sports offered by the ACC. The men's and women's ice hockey teams compete in Hockey East.

The Boston College Eagles kick off their 2022 football season on Sept. 3 at home against Rutgers at noon ET. The game will be broadcast on ESPN’s ACC Network.

As part of the sponsorship agreement, Empower will see new branding efforts, which include digital and social media opportunities, radio, in-stadium branding, and signage as well as hospitality benefits.

“Supporting college sports is a way for Empower to connect with the millions of existing and prospective customers and to help create visibility and brand recognition for the next generation,” said Edmund F. Murphy III, President of Empower. “We are proud to partner with Boston College and the tremendous student athletes and diverse fan base they have.”

In 2021, Empower served as the title sponsor for the 2021 “Red Bandanna Game,” a Boston College tradition honoring Welles Crowther, a former BC lacrosse player who lost his life in the World Trade Center on 9/11. Additionally, Empower has made a pledge to support Boston College’s charitable causes, including being a lead sponsor of the Jay McGillis Intercepting Cancer effort.

The sponsorship between Empower Retirement and BC is overseen by Boston College Sports Properties, the university’s athletics multimedia rightsholder, and locally based LEARFIELD team.

“Boston College Sports Properties is excited to partner with Empower Retirement on this sponsorship and we look forward to working with the entire Empower team,” said Michael Winn, General Manager of Boston College Sports Properties.

In addition to Boston College, Empower also supports National Football League teams and professional golfers. In 2019, Empower entered into a 21-year agreement with the Denver Broncos for the naming rights to Empower Field at Mile High and is a sponsor of the New England Patriots. Empower has sponsorship deals with LPGA Tour golfers Cheyenne Knight and Mariah Stackhouse and PGA Tour golfers Brendan Steele, Webb Simpson, Brendon Todd, and Robert Streb.
