GREENWOOD VILLAGE, COLO. May 16, 2023 – Empower announced today it will sponsor professional golfer Wyatt Worthington II, whose achievements include a recent win at the APGA Tour at TPC Las Vegas and a T-8 finish at the PGA Professional Championship, securing his second consecutive qualification for the 2023 PGA Championship, to be held May 18-21 at the Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford, NY.

Worthington has proven himself as a trailblazer in the golfing community. In 2016, he became the first African American PGA Club Professional to qualify for the PGA Championship in 25 years, a milestone that highlights his talent and perseverance.

In addition to his successes on the APGA Tour, Worthington has demonstrated his capabilities on prestigious stages. Worthington competed in the 2022 PGA Championship after qualifying with an impressive T4 finish at the PGA Professional Championship. Furthermore, his victory in The John Shippen Invitational granted him an exemption to compete in the PGA TOUR's Rocket Mortgage Classic.

“I've had to overcome so many hurdles, including physical injuries, financial burdens, and limited access to facilities,” Worthington said. “The most challenging aspect has been securing opportunities to play at the highest level and finding sponsorship. I’m grateful to have Empower support my journey. Having partners like Empower will go a long way to help me unlock developmental pathways to reach the next level.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Wyatt Worthington II to the Empower family,” said Empower President and CEO Edmund F. Murphy III. “His dedication, skill, and determination are admirable, and we are proud to support him on his journey.

“Our sponsorship of Wyatt aligns with Empower's commitment to supporting athletes who persevere and find success through hard work and commitment. We believe these values align with our organization’s goals as we help millions of Americans as they work toward achieving financial freedom,” said Murphy.

Worthington’s partnership will include engagement and social opportunities with Empower clients and partners across the country. The Empower logo will appear on Worthington’s hat at select PGA TOUR and Korn Ferry Tour events throughout the professional golf calendar, including the PGA Championship.

“Partnerships like this have a way of connecting us together in ways that transcend business and sports,” said Stephen Jenks, chief marketing officer at Empower. “We believe that finding a partner like Wyatt demonstrates support for our shared values in a way that is meaningful to a broader audience of stakeholders.”

The sponsorship with Worthington expands Empower’s sports marketing initiatives. Empower also supports several professional golfers, including LPGA Tour golfers Cheyenne Knight and Mariah Stackhouse and PGA TOUR golfers Kurt Kitayama, Davis Riley, Webb Simpson, and Robert Streb. In 2019, Empower entered into a 21-year agreement with the Denver Broncos for the naming rights to Empower Field at Mile High, and the company is a sponsor of the New England Patriots.
