GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo., Nov. 6, 2019 — Empower Retirement has been recognized in Colorado for creating a company culture of philanthropy that encourages and supports employees’ community involvement.

Empower will be recognized on National Philanthropy Day Nov. 8 in Denver at a ceremony hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Colorado Chapter, an organization committed to advancing philanthropy.

National Philanthropy Day celebrates individuals, organizations and businesses for their philanthropic work in their communities. Empower is recognized in the Outstanding Large Business category for its long-term, sustained commitment to nonprofit organizations throughout Colorado.

“This is a wonderful recognition of Empower employees who are committed to strengthening their communities through their volunteer work and financial support,” said Edmund F. Murphy III, Empower President & CEO. “Empower employees have experienced the exponential value of contributing to the communities where they work, live and play and are dedicated to making them healthier and stronger.”

Empower Retirement is headquartered in the Denver Tech Center in Greenwood Village, Colorado where 2,700 employees of its total 6,200 employees work.

In 2016, Empower started its Associates Community Together program across the entire company, which matches employees’ financial contributions up to $5,000 to nonprofit organizations and provides employees with paid time off to volunteer in their community. This collaborative philanthropy, which doubles down on employees’ community efforts, supported 436 charitable organizations in Colorado in 2018 and nearly 950 organizations in 44 states.

Since the inception of the ACT program, Empower and its employees have given $7.85 million to nonprofit organizations across the country. Another key aspect of the program includes its Board Leadership Program, which supports associates who serve on the boards of nonprofit organizations. In Colorado in 2018, Empower employees served on 14 boards, including American Heart Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado and Adam’s Camp.

“Every year, Empower associates give just a few more hours and a little more financial support than the previous year to nonprofit organizations working to strengthen their cities,” Murphy said. “I am proud to come to work each day with this group of community-minded employees.”
