Empower Retirement has been named an honoree of The Civic 50 Colorado by CSR Solutions of Colorado and Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service.
The award recognizes Empower as one of the 50 most community-minded companies in Colorado, which is determined by an independently administered and scored survey.
In Colorado, where the company is headquartered, Empower associates supported 436 charitable organizations in 2018. (More details are published in Empower’s 2018 Community Impact Report.)
The Civic 50 Colorado awards, modeled after Points of Light’s national program, provide a standard for superior corporate citizenship and showcases how companies can use their time, skills and resources to impact their communities.
The Civic 50 Colorado honorees were recognized during The Civic 50 Colorado Awards on Sept. 19 at an event held at Infinity Park in Glendale, Colo.
“This recognition is special because our associates have continually invested their time and financial support in nonprofit organizations that work to make our communities healthier and stronger,” said Edmund F. Murphy III, Empower President & CEO. “Through our Associates Community Together program, a collaborative giving program, we have built a company culture that encourages stewardship of our community resources and works to improve the neighborhoods where we work, live and play.”
Empower launched its ACT program in 2016 to support the volunteer and giving efforts of its associates. Through the program, associates are provided 16 hours a year of paid volunteer time off from work. Empower also matches money donated to nonprofit organizations by associates of up to $5,000 annually. Since its inception, Empower and its employees have given $7.85 million to nonprofit organizations across the country. Another key aspect of the program includes its Board Leadership Program, which supports associates who serve on the boards of nonprofit organizations.
“Empower is fortunate to have associates who are passionate about their work and their communities,” said Suzanne Sanchez, Chief Human Resources Officer. “Our associates have embraced our ACT program and made it their own. Together we have created a company culture that embraces our community organizations and has sparked excitement and energy among all of us.”
CSR Solutions, a leader in community engagement and philanthropy, is pleased to be the first in the country to bring the nationally revered Civic 50 Awards to Colorado. Colorado companies have invested significant resources in our communities to build a strong, resilient, connected and healthy place for us all. The impact stories will inspire us all to support their efforts.
The Civic 50 Colorado survey is administered by True Impact, a company specializing in helping organizations maximize and measure their social and business value. The survey instrument consists of quantitative and multiple-choice questions that inform scoring process and is the only evaluation that exclusively measures corporate involvement in communities.
