The fourth annual St. Jude Robert Streb Golf Classic drove in more than $170,000 to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Over 100 golfers and their friends and families drove in more than $170,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on October 20 and 21– double the amount raised four years ago.

The fourth annual St. Jude Robert Streb Golf Classic, sponsored by Empower Retirement, helped raise awareness and funds for kids when they need it most. All proceeds support the hospital’s research, drug discovery and no-cost patient care.

PGA TOUR golfer (and Empower partner) Robert Streb and his wife, Maggie, host the annual event at Lake Quivira Country Club in Lake Quivira, Kansas. Their dedication to St. Jude’s mission sparked several years ago when Streb played in the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis — and the Strebs toured the hospital and met the children there who were fighting for their lives.

“The St. Jude Robert Streb Classic sponsored by Empower has become a very important event to Maggie and me,” said Streb. “To be able to raise money and make a difference in children’s lives is something we are pretty passionate about. We cannot be thankful enough to the donors and Empower for helping us make it happen.”

The 2019 event began with a welcome party and auction. Auction prizes included a VIP experience with Darius Rucker in Nashville, an all-expense paid trip to the AT&T Byron Nelson PGA Tour event in Texas and a one-week escape to Bali. The next day golfers hit the links (and the rolling hills) of Lake Quivira Country Club’s colorful 18-hole course.

Empower associates served as volunteers to help with set up, registration, fundraising and more. Through the Associates Community Together (ACT) program, associates get 16 hours a year of paid volunteer time off from work.

Empower Retirement has been a proud sponsor of the St. Jude Robert Streb Golf Classic since its inception in 2015.
