Subdividing of Counties
MTA, BTA and CMA boundaries are based on counties. Some carriers have built their own license boundaries showing their service and market areas.

However, these boundaries may be inaccurate if they don't account for the fact that the FCC has allowed some counties to be subdivided (or apportioned) to create license boundaries. The number of apportioned counties and the effected population is significant as shown by these maps.

bullet

161 counties have been been split into 336 "apportioned" counties.

bullet

The population of effected counties exceeds 21 million

MarketRight boundaries have been meticulously built taking into account the many changes over the years that affect Cellular and PCS boundaries.

Choosing MarketRight helps ensure you get the most accurate maps and underlying data for supporting your business decisions.
