Market Analysis
and Demographics Systems
Portfolio™
is a set of tools and data that simplifies market analysis of
geographic areas.
Designed to work with both customer data and preloaded
consumer and business demographic modules, Portfolio is a
scalable solution that allows businesses of any size to better
understand their customers.
Output
provides information on the demographic characteristics and
the market potential of a user’s own products in any
geographic area.
Using available cluster analysis options, users can
even understand the number of potential customers they are
likely to find in another database, such as a mailing list.
Portfolio
includes three products, that can be used standalone or as
part of the integrated Portfolio suite:
Allocate™
demographic analysis.
Solocast™ cluster analysis.
PinPoint™ data
transformation tool.
Data for the
Portfolio System

The
Allocate demographic analysis tool is for the business user
who wants to perform quick and accurate market analysis.
Custom reports can be easily created in a variety of
media, thereby spreading information and knowledge throughout
the enterprise. Ease
of use will give users of all levels – from the business
analyst to the senior executive – the capability to perform
on-the-fly market analyses.
Using Allocate will empower an organization with the
confidence to make sound business decisions.
Allocate
key features include:

Solocast
cluster analysis tool, as an option, enables users to
understand the demographic profile of any database: customer
data, survey data or the population of a geographic area.
By
comparing the demographic profiles of different databases, a
user is able to determine the market potential of their own
products in any geographic area.
Marketing analysts and managers can instantly profile
either customer databases or the population of geographic
areas in order to determine their key demographic
characteristics. The
demographic or “cluster” profile of the database or area
is used to correlate the similarity between the populations of
different databases, and to determine the market potential of
a given database.
Only

results in a variety of formats, including: HTML,
spreadsheets and mapping files.
Complete integration with mapping applications
allows results to be viewed instantly as thematic maps. |

PinPoint
is easy to use, flexible, fast, and easy to integrate.
Easy to
Use. Using drawing tools, similar to Visio®, you simply drag tools from a palette and place them on the “programming” canvas and connect the processes to show the flow of data creating a custom data processing “engine.” Running it is as simple as clicking a button. The engines resemble a flowchart.
Flexible. Every company’s data is different and the processes needed to accomplish tasks varies. Because you can build a custom data processing engine out of simple tools, you are not held to preconceived ideas about your data or processes.
Fast. Using sequential disk access,
PinPoint can process about 30 million records per hour. That’s 300 times faster than traditional database solutions, which typically can process a maximum of 100,000 records per hour.
Easy to
integrate. PinPoint is both a visual design tool and a command-line application. After building a custom data processing engine using the friendly graphical interface, you can export your engine and run it from the command-line or as part of a scheduled batch operation. This flexibility allows you to embed
PinPoint as a component of complex processes that can be scheduled automatically.
PinPoint supports a variety of input and output data formats, including flat files, DFB files, and delimited value files. The RDBMS Access Module supports OBDC as well as direct access to Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and IBM DB2 databases.
Thomson
Newspapers uses PinPoint. This leading newspaper publisher uses PinPoint Enterprise on a monthly basis to transform it millions of subscriber and advertiser records. Decentralized, Thomson has its 54 papers throughout the U.S and Canada, electronically provide their complete subscription and advertiser databases to a centralized data server. PinPoint performs data cleansing routines on the inbound Thomson data and then transforms the data by conducting merge/purge and data appending processes using national household and business databases. The process requires less than two hours of CPU time and the result is an incredible wealth of detail about who subscribers and advertisers are and where more of them can be found. "PinPoint technology has helped us bring market analysis into the 21st century," said Warwick Brindle, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Thomson Newspapers. "Instead of locking the marketing department away in the basement, we have opened up the information box to everyone in the company. For us, this means that we are able to assess a new publication opportunity in a few hours and launch with full confidence that it will work because we did our homework For our subscribers and advertisers, it means that we can now turn data around very quickly and make decisions based on market facts that are at our fingertips."
Data
for the Portfolio System
Data
is available in content specific packages.
The demographic data in Allocate is based upon household
level input from Applied Geographic Solutions and Experian.
Because of the unique format of the Allocate database,
information from each of the packages for every standard level
of geography can be stored on a single CD-ROM.
Users are then able to “unlock” specific packages for
specific geographic areas as necessary.
Packages
fall into the following broad categories: demographic estimates
and projections, consumer expenditure modules, Allocate
clusters, lifestyle data, business summary data, and geographic
boundaries.
